What are Netspark's content categories?
Netspark uses content categories to group different apps and websites. Each app and website are assigned to one category based on their most defining aspect. This allows you to select which categories you wish to block/allow when setting the "Custom" filtering level.
The following list provides information about our apps and websites categorization:
The Browser category controls all browser apps and all web browsing done through browser apps. The filter level set here will define the level for websites alone and not apps.
The Chat/IM/SMS includes messaging apps and websites, such as WhatsApp, Hangouts, Telegram and more. The default SMS messaging app is not included in this category.
The Downloads category includes apps and sites for downloading content to the device.
App stores such as Google Play Store and Apple App Store are included in this category.
The Email category includes email apps and websites, such as Gmail, Microsoft Outlook, Yahoo Mail, Mailbox and more.
The Finance category includes finance and business related apps and websites, such as banks, investing, mobile payment apps, taxes and more.
The Games category includes gaming apps and websites, such as Angry Birds, Candy Crush, Clash of Clans, NBA Live, Fortnite and more.
The Information category includes general information apps and websites, such as Waze, Google Maps, Yelp, Amazon Kindle, Google Earth, Wikipedia and more.
The News category includes news apps and websites, such as CNN, BBC, Fox News, CBS News, NY Times and more.
The Players/Photos category includes camera apps, media players, video editing apps, galleries etc.
The Productivity category includes general apps that are used on a daily basis, such as task managers, alarm clocks, keyboards, calculators, office apps etc.
The Radio/Music/Streaming category includes apps and websites that stream audio content online, such as Spotify, SoundCloud, Google Play Music, Google Podcasts, Pandora and more.
The Religions category includes any religion related app or website.
The Remote Connections category includes remote access apps, such as remote support, FTP clients, apps for accessing IP cameras remotely etc.
The Shopping category includes shopping apps and websites, such as Amazon, eBay, Groupon, Walmart, AliExpress and more.
The Social Networks category includes social network apps or websites, such as Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Snapchat, LinkedIn and more.
The Sports category includes sports and fitness apps and website, such as Fitbit, Google Fit, ESPN, NBA, NFL Now and more.
The TV/Streaming category includes apps and website that stream video content such as, Netflix, Hulu, Amazon Prime, Dailymotion, Vimeo, TED and more.
This category does not include YouTube.
The VoIP category includes messaging apps that are used mainly as VoIP apps, such as Skype, Tango, Viber, Zello, Google Hangouts Dialer and more.
Some apps that are also used as messaging apps, may belong to the Chat category.
The Wallpapers category includes launchers and wallpaper or icon packs apps.
The YouTube category includes the YouTube website and apps that play YouTube videos, such as, YouTube Kids, PlayTube, TubeMate and more.
